Early 1900s (1900-1920) Scarce Fine Antique Solid Sterling Silver & Gold Vermeil Portable Anointing Oil Vessel. Engraved Top
'I H S' and 'O I'. O I stands for Oleum Infirm Orum.
Unique Hinged finger ring at the bottom. The ring was worn on the finger by a priest or Pastor.
Gold /Vermeil/Gilt interior. Interior is marked 'STERLING’ SF (Swift and Fisher)
There is still traces of oil in it! Could be cleaned and polish down to the silver core but I’ll leave that for the buyer to do or keep in its vintage condition.
It measures approx. 1 1/2" across. Ring size between 10-11 I would guess.
Weighs approximately 24 Grams.
Gold vermeil on the top and bottom is mostly faded off the sterling silver. See photos
It closes but may have a weak lock, doesn’t seem 100% secure as it’s pretty easy to open but that may just be due to age or design. The hinge and ring are sturdy.
